Everyone should be able to live a full & dignified life; yet wealth - the means to do so - cannot be justly gained from another’s suffering. Modern capitalism is a holistic system which inherently creates inequalities, dismantles & destroys communities, isolates individuals & precludes the fulfillment of dreams for millions.
Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters, DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.
From being on the frontlines of climate change to exorbitant healthcare costs, Alaskans need urgent action. We believe in Medicare for All where healthcare is a human right and in the Green New Deal where everyone can live a dignified life without degrading the planet. We demand demilitarizing our communities and justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. We must build community resiliency by investing in education and housing for all and growing labor unions and worker power. The exploitative and oppressive systems of capitalism, colonialism, and white supremacy must be dismantled.
A better world is possible. In the end, only socialism can defeat barbarism.

Our Focus
Anchorage DSA agrees with the national DSA in its support for workers rights, civil rights, environmental rights, women’s rights, LGBT rights, immigrant rights, and disabled rights. We strive to be a diverse, dynamic group of Alaskans who actively work to create a better future with these issues in mind. We believe that this is only possible if we are a unified group of democratic socialists whose members actively support and participate in the work that many progressive organizations are doing in our city and state.
America needs a strong, united left to defeat the corrupt conservatism, centrism, and liberalism that have dominated our national politics. Justice for Alaskans is directly linked to justice for Americans, which is directly linked to justice for all humans. We are friends and partners of anyone working in support of the goals listed above. |
